The Major Minors Children's Choir was formed in February 2012 by Musical Director Joanne Roelofs and Karen Boyce as a one off children's choir of unauditioned primary School aged children which was part of a choral programme with The Hutt Valley Singers. ...  moreThe Major Minors Children's Choir was formed in February 2012 by Musical Director Joanne Roelofs and Karen Boyce as a one off children's choir of unauditioned primary School aged children which was part of a choral programme with The Hutt Valley Singers. The choir was such a success and those involved enjoyed it so much that it was decided to continue. The Choir is a training Choir with The children having opportunities to sing or speak solo lines and learn harmonies. Current members are aged between 4 and 12. The Harmonic Minors is The Major Minors Children's Choir's extension group. This is an auditioned choir for older children and teens.  less

Many of our singers are School music teachers and voice teachers. We perform a wide variety of music from classical and broadway to pop and vocal jazz. The choir was founded in 2011 by friends who have spent Their lives teaching oThers to perform, but whom rarely get The chance to sing anymore. We are directed by Jason Krigas and accompanied by Kathryn Polyack.

PROGRAM NOTES: “I breaThed a song into The air, it fell to earth I knew not where.” Ten years ago, I wrote a composition called Always Keep This Close with little idea of where it would go or what it would come to mean for oThers. To find that song living in The hearts of oTher musicians is both humbling and surprising. For me, it’s a reminder of how powerful our actions and words can be. Something that feels insignificant to one person can be life-changing to anoTher. While creating The Heart of a Friend, I knew from The start that I wanted to shape a melodic arc that captured The trajectory of both The arrow and The song. I felt strongly that The first two stanzas needed to end at a high point, preserving The uncertainty of where each might land. Only in The third stanza does The melody turn downward, revealing The rest of its path. I Then combine These two halves to symbolically represent reflection—looking back on an action and seeing The journe...    less
