The aim of the Horizons Project is not simply to stimulate the creation of new South African choral Music; but to stimulate the creation of a new generation of South African choral composers. There are 2 projects a year, each one focusing on a different genre of choral compositions. The Choir consists of 24 hand-picked singers. By inviting specific ‘head-hunted’ singers to join the Choir and not just having open public auditions, allows us to hold an extremely high level of Musicianship, technical ability and an exclusivity that makes our sound unique. The Choir’s extensive repertoire covers all periods of vocal Music and the 20th. century, among them choral works composed by R.R. ...  moreFor more than 100 years now the male Choir HARMONIE Lindenholzhausen with its 90 singers presents high-quality Choir Music. The Choir’s extensive repertoire covers all periods of vocal Music and the 20th. century, among them choral works composed by R.R. Klein, A. Koerppen, F. Farcas and many others more. Some of the works have been specially composed for HARMONIE Lindenholzhausen. At the same time the Choir dedicates itself to oratorioes usually performed together with the female Choir “Dzintars” Riga / Latvia. Numerous concert tours and participations in international festivals took the HARMONIE to Austria, the Czech Republic, Egypt, England, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Macedonia, Russia, USA and Wales. In Wales the Choir won first prize in the male Choir category at the International “Eisteddfod” Llangollen in 1995 and 2007(second prize in 2003). Ira Spaulding, born in New York, studied with Robert Simpson at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey (Bachelor of Music) and also holds a Master of Music in Voice and Choral Conducting from Eastern Kentucky University. He gave numerous recitals in America as well as having taught voice, conducting, vocal pedagogy and literature at several colleges and conducted various vocal ensembles (community oratorio Choirs, church Choirs, boys Choirs and a jazz vocal ensemble). He currently serves on the faculty at City College of New York where he teaches voice, conducting and leads vocal ensembles and Choirs.  less
