Oakland ba...  moreThe Oakland Jazz choir, established in 1992, is a unique, dynamic, multi-cultural ensemble, dedicated to the education, preservation and perpetuation of vocal jazz, and is committed to bringing together professional and community members alike. Oakland based, East Bay born and bred, OJC brings original arrangements of traditional and contemporary vocal jazz to the Bay Area & beyond. In addition OJC presents an interactive vocal jazz workshop to the Oakland Public Schools. A blending of hearts and voices can have so much power. These voices unite to share in their common love of jazz and to help promote the art form in new ways while respecting its cultural roots. OJC is funded mainly through its performances, grants and individual donations. Those dollars fund day-to-day operations, artistic and professional fees. But what keeps OJC’s collective heart beating most of all is the love of Jazz.  less

Some have been here since the beginning, some joined this year and others fit somewhere in the middle. We have an exacting standard of singing - we are just not sure what that exactly is! One of the most important facets of Mood Swing is that we have fun with what we do and it comes across not only in our singing, but also in our performances. We may not have perfected laughing and singing at the same time, but we give it a fair go! Since 2001, Mood Swing have been wowing audiences with our full sounds and suave choreography. With a range of music from '20s swing, African songs, traditional gospel, contemporary hits and fun ditties arranged in three and four parts, Mood Swing have something for all ages. Fabulously led by Lisa Schwabe, Mood Swing have been singing around Melbourne at concerts, churches and private functions to the delight of all who see and hear us. It happened on a December night in 2001 in Sopron in front of the Dömötöri Patisserie where we sang Christmas carols for ...  moreWho are we? Well, we are the Kórus Spontánusz! That was our answer, unexpected even for us, since we hadn’t thought of a name yet. It happened on a December night in 2001 in Sopron in front of the Dömötöri Patisserie where we sang Christmas carols for the passersby. We didn’t notice being founded, only the joy of polyphonic singing. It was, and still is our experience that making music together strengthens existing friendships and facilitates the development of new ones. We started out with 13 people and our numbers have only been growing ever since, we count 25-35 members on average. We gladly sing anything may that be it religious or secular, Hungarian or from abroad regardless of its period or language if it fits our skills and numbers. We sing in churches, restaurants, museums, the Academy of Music, small villages in Hungary or Austria, at international competitions, libraries – anyplace where we are welcome.
