This is thanks to the work of Knut Nystedt (b....  moreThroughout its existence the chamber choir Schola Cantorum has had high ambitions. the choir has built an international reputation and has made it a trademark to include newly written Music in its programmes. This is thanks to the work of Knut Nystedt (b. 1915), organist, composer and conductor, who returned to Norway in 1964 after studying in the USA and started a choir at the Music department of the University of Oslo. the choir continues to recruit members from the department of Music, as well as from the Norwegian Academy of Music in more recent years. the American choral tradition in which Nystedt was trained emphasises the importance of new Music – a practice Nystedt brought back with him to Oslo. Knut Nystedt’s Music became a vital element of Schola Cantorum’s repertoire. Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl became conductor in 2002, and has further established the choir’s firm position in Norway’s Musical life. She has continued Nystedt’s tradition of performing modern Music. In 2011 they published their first CD, Songs of Freedom, a collection of protest songs with a strong connection to the Civil Rights Movement. In 2015 TSV published their first original single, “Graces (Dropping Again)” written by ZogaroS. In 2017 TSV will release a concept album of 16 songs and vocal interludes composed and produced by all the girls. “Broken Dream”, written by Chiara Cortez and Emanuele Jorma Gasperi, is the first single published to launch the record.  less
