The University Singers have performed throughout the world, and have sung with a variety of professional orchestras including the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra under the batons of conductors such as Carl St.Clair, John Mauceri, John Williams, and Keith Lockhart. Internationally acclaimed for their exquisite musicianship, they have been invited to perform at conferences organized by the American Choral Directors Association and the Music Educators National Conference. In 2003, Matjaž Šček, the conductor of the group, was replaced by Andreja Martinjak, who performed regularly with the Choir and took part in national and international Choir competitions where the Choir as well as the conductor were winning numerous prizes and awards. The greatest achievements of the Choir include a gold plaque, awarded in the 20th Slovenian national Choir competition, Naša pesem (Our song) 2007 and the second place in the 9th international Choir competition in Maribor 2008, where the Choir also won a special prize for the best Slovenian Choir of the competition. In 2008 we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the birth of Slovenian composer Pavle Merkú with a special cycle of concerts. The 15 strong member Choir, under the direction of Berima Amo, draws on the youth living in the Amsterdam area especially in the Southeast parts. The Choir is dedicated to sharing the joy of faith through indigenous music with audiences around Europe. We specialize in singing indidenous and folk music music from Ghana, West Africa, proudly exhibiting, learning and teaching our African heritage to the world. GCC meets every monday 7pm to sing, discuss about life, encourage each other and share ideas.  less
