It consists of 27 members and a 5 piece band. Their ages range from 18 to 35 years and they are based in Kwazulu Natal. THE members of this Choir come from many different places around Zululand and 90% of them are unemployed. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES • The main aim of this Choir is to gather people who have the same vision together to produce good ‘live’ performances. Also to record strong material and spread the word of God through music. • To search for talent and make use of it in the most profitable way. • To create job opportunities for the youth. • To grow and develop artists in music. • To make a difference in people’s lives by creating job opportunities. WE audition artists who apply to us and then choose the very best. WE rehearse every weekend (Fridays and Saturdays) in Richards Bay. WE compose songs and also encourage Choir members to do the same. The Choir is made up of 25 members from a variety of professional backgrounds, including teachers, scientists, clerics, accountants, carpenters, and engineers. The Choir's repertoire consists mainly of choral works from the renaissance and 20th century, as well as contemporary pieces in Hungarian, English, Latin, Italian, French, and German. The Gesualdo Choir has earned several national and international awards, winning top ratings in Hungary as well as 2nd and 3rd place prizes at the prestigious Tonen Choir competition in the Netherlands. BUMC Jazz Choir 2008 members, the winners of the IKSV Young Jazz 2008, who have boosted their success by attending to the most prestigious a cappella contest in the world, 'Vokal Total', in both pop and jazz categories and won 2 'Silver Diplom's and also have sung many times in many festivals such as the 15th International Istanbul Jazz Festival and the Akbank 18th Jazz Festival. They also gave special concerts with Sertab Erener (ESC 2003 winner). The group carries on with their professional musical careers under the name “Istanbul Essence”. The Choir sings evensong every Sunday during term and performs in concerts organised by Somerville Music Society. Somerville Choir is currently being conducted by David Crown. He is assisted by the two organ scholars, Douglas Knight and Robert Pecksmith (http://www.robert-smith.org.uk ), and Choir manager Stefan Schwarz. Since David Crown took over as Director of Chapel Music in 2007, the Choir has been involved in two opera productions (Purcell's 'Dido and Aeneas ' and Gluck's 'Orfeo ed Euridice') as well as concerts in Oxford, Brighton, Wells, Swindon, Upton upon Severn and Steeple Aston. In recent years the Choir has also sung evensong at Southwark, Worcester, Winchester, Wells and Berlin Cathedrals. Also winning ...  moreIn the World Choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz Choir became the 'WORLD CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got the 'second prize' in Mixed Choirs category. Also winning 2 more gold medals in 'Grand Prix of Choral Music' the champions competed in, the Choir has come back to Turkey with a total of 5 gold medals. As Dunedin’s leading exponent of large-scale choral works, the Choir strives for the highest standards in performing the classics of the repertoire, such as Bach’s St Matthew Passion, and Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, the Beethoven Ninth and Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius. Gospel Choir is based in Essex, but occasionally strays beyond! Celebrating our tenth anniversary in 2013, the Choir was formed in 2003 after director Jen and accompanist Jane were missing taking part in music, having left university. Starting well, with about 15 members the Choir has fluctuated in size, settling early on into a Choir of 8. In 2010 however, the Choir doubled in size and we are pleased that this core of almost 20 people has stuck! Choir members range from 7 years old to 77! We are a sociable bunch with an emphasis on singing for fun. We don’t put people through an audition and being able to read music isn’t necessary. A good third of the Choir don't read music. Being able to sing in tune is an advantage though! We have performed at weddings and parties across Essex and Suffolk, for the Women's Institute, local churches, at fetes, town open nights and charity concerts at the Mercury, Headgate and Towngate theatres. We don't pay our singers for performing - we do it for the love! ...    less
