Each composer set verses for his or her own star sign. Leo was premiered by The Esoterics on December 7, 8, 14 & 15, 2002, in concerts in Tacoma, Mercer Island and Seattle, Washington. The piece was named as a Finalist in 2007 Cincinnati Camerata Composition Competition, and is a Project Encore selection. The second performance of the newly commissioned "City Songs" by Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds, Australian poet Emma Jones and narrator Imogen Heap. The work was commissioned by the Voices Now Festival and first performed in the Roundhouse, London, June 2013. The second performance took place on Friday 25th October 2013 in St. Columb's Hall, Derry as part of the inaugural choral festival. This second performance featured the Holst Singers and Roundhouse Choir from London, Codetta, Encore Contemporary Choir, Colmcille Ladies and the Music Promise Junior Choir from Derry and the Orchestra of Ireland, conducted by Stephen Layton.  less

Our members are mainly from a...  moreThe Mayo Male Voice Choir has been in existence for Twelve years, it has grown in strength this year from 26 to 42 members, and now has a wide and varied repertory featuring many favorites from light opera to popular musical. Our members are mainly from around the Castlebar area, but with five from Ballinrobe, more from Swinford, Kilkelly and Ballyglass we now truly represent our county. Under the musical direction of Deirdre Lee, from Kiltimagh, Deirdre has been our musical director since the choir’s inception, an honors music graduate of University College Maynooth, having studied under Professor Gerard Gillen. She has been involved in many musicals and events as musical director, arranged and conducted. Deirdre is a teacher of music, choir and orchestra in St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Castlebar. She has arranged many of the pieces we perform in four part for male voice. which were previously not available to us.  less

The group was formed in 1976 by women who shared a common interest in the complex harmonies and compelling rhythms typical in Balkan music.
