Tomislav Veršić in the School year 1992/93 by merging two School ensembles founded a year earlier: Girls’ Choir, and traditional Dalmatian male vocal group (so-called “klapa”) “Šufit”. At the end of the following School year, the Choir participated for the first time at the Croatian Youth Music Festival, choral competition which is traditionally held in Varaždin, thereby winning the Silver Plaque. In 1996 the performance of the Choir at the same event was rewarded with Gold Plaque. After this success, the Choir received new, more experienced members, and began to act as the Mixed Choir of Cultural and Artistic Association “Aspalathos”. Although new ensemble soon became well recognized and multiply awarded, it ceased to be a part of the School and thus of this historical review as well. Our repertoire includes a range of traditional and contemporary African songs in a variety of languages. We are girls who become like family through our shared passion for music. Each member auditioned by our Choirmaster, Andre van der Merwe, and attends Stellenberg High School. Our repertoire consists mainly of Gospel, Acapella, Classical, Folk/Ethnic, and Sacred music. We compete in various national and international competitions and strive to share beautiful music with the world while being cultural ambassadors for our country. Achievements: - Overall winners of the "ATKV Nasionale Applous-kompetisie" for 12 times (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011). - In 2002 they won the category for Women's Choirs at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales. - In 2004, we were awarded the Highest percentage for any Choir at the World Choir Olympics. - In 2006 we won the much acclaimed Choir of the World trophy in Llangollen Wales. ...    less
