In keeping with Byrd's Catholic background in Protestant England, the text is a translation of the antiphon to the Magnificat for the Second Vespers of the Nativity. However, rather than sounding like a stately motet, it is instead in a full madrigalian style, with angelic voices entwining, and thrilling alleluias.  less
