The poetry of American writer Luci Shaw jumped off the page for Vancouver musician Edward Henderson. Its dazzling imagery is reflected in Henderson's score, commissioned with financial assistance from the Diane Loomer Commissioning Fund for Elektra Women's Choir and premiered at the choir's 2009 Chez Nous: Christmas with Elektra concerts. The choir was founded in 1986 by Mr. Albert Morland who has since held the reigns in his very capable conducting hands. During this time the choir has achieved success on many levels: Locally they have received 10 golden diplomas on provincial level for t...  moreThe choir was founded in 1986 by Mr. Albert Morland who has since held the reigns in his very capable conducting hands. During this time the choir has achieved success on many levels: Locally they have received 10 golden diplomas on provincial level for the “ATKV Applous” competition in the category for advanced, mixed high School choirs; and 7 golden diplomas on national level for the same competition. They were the only choir in the history of the Director’s trophy who won the award 8 times and they were also the first to do so in all three categories: mixed- (5 times), boys’- (twice) and girls’ choir (once). They have also received double gold at the Gauteng Eisteddfod, A and A+ awards at the Pretoria Beeld Eisteddfod and first place in their category in more than one local competition. They have annual workshops and master classes with well-known and respected conductors (both locally and internationally) and have hosted many international choirs and groups. The University Chorale is the touring Ensemble for the choral department. The Ensemble performs a wide spectrum of the finest choral literature. The group performs extensively throughout the Southwest and will be singing at several venues in Washington D.C. during December of 2013. The group primarily consists of vocal music majors, however, there are singers representing several other academic disciplines. The University Chorale has been under the direction of J. Steven Walker since 1984. Dr. Walker is the Director of Choral Activities and a Linscheid Distinguished Teaching Professor at East Central University. He has served on the music faculty at ECU since 1983.  less

However it does not exempt the work of works accompanied by instrumental Ensemble, piano, etc. This group's training base is four singers, two of them music professionals, malleable according to the repertoire, joining more singers if so required. Being a recent Ensemble, it premiered in the March 2015 concert with the Lenten Concert (Solidarity Concert in favor of Maria Lara) in the Chapel of Covão do Coelho and the Church of Minde, with works by T.L de Victoria, A. Caldara, A. Scarlatti, J.S. Bach, G.
