Cantate is a mixed-voice youth choir based in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire. It is open to all young Singers, whatever their background and musical upbringing. Cantate comprises three choirs for children and young people which all perform to an exceptionally high Standard. Cantate performed at the Royal Albert Hall, both in the BBC and Schools Prom Concerts, the Royal FeStival Hall, the Barbican, the Guildhall London, 10 Downing Street, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi, St Mark’s Basilica in Venice, and in many local and regional venues. Cantate has gained many national and international awards. In 2008 we achieved international acclaim at the world’s largeSt choral event – the World Choir Games in Graz, AuStria – in which over 430 choirs from some 90 countries competed. It is situated on the south coaSt of the County of Cornwall, the area of England protruding into the atlantic Ocean facing North America. Male voice singing is traditionally very popular in the county, there being 33 federated choirs numbering 1,300 Singers out of a total population of nearly half a million. The choir was formed in 1974 and quickly matured into one of the leading and largeSt male choirs in Cornwall. It now has over 55 members including several founder members. The choir gives around 25 Concerts each year, raising many thousands of pounds for various charities. On the 10th July 2010 they celebrated their 900th public appearance. During a Concert tour of Gibraltar in 1979 they performed in the famous St. Michael's Cave.
