As the premiere chorale ensemble at OSU, the OSU Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr. Steven Zielke, has garnered national attention and international awards. While touring Eastern Europe in 2001, the Choir received the Grand Prize at the Festival of Light in Bulgaria, and in April 2006, the Chamber Choir was selected as the only collegiate mixed Choir from outside of the state of Utah to perform at the 60th Music Educators National Biennial Conference in Salt Lake City. The Choir has performed in many exciting venues, including a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Smetana Hall in Prague and at Strathov Monastery in Prague Castle, the first Choir allowed to perform in the monastery in decades. However, it also sings with instrumental accompaniment. The Choir has pieces from different ages, languages and styles in its repertoire. It gives both Turkey and world premieres of songs. It premiered the concerto Romeo and Juliet, composed by the conductor Agosyan last year. It was first created by a few friends in 1991, then enlarged over the years. It has been conducted by Stephan Nicolay since 2004. The Choir aims to share quality music and new experiences with the audience. That is why La Sestina often performs with crossover arts on a main theme e.g. French Renaissance chansons in 16th century clothes with an actress, a cappella sacred contemporary music with dancers and video projection, Baroque French music with Chamber orchestra and a lecturer, medieval Spanish music with mediterranean ensemble of lutes and percussions, etc. Also, the Choir aims at supporting humanitarian and social actions by offering one or several concerts each year.
