Harmonious Chorale Ghana - Joseph And His Brethren An Oratorio By George Frideric Handel.
Performed By The Harmonious Chorale-Ghana and Conducted By James Varrick Armaah - 2nd July, 2017
Pharaoh gave Joseph (who was now 30years old) his own ring, fine clothes, a robe, a royal chariot and a brand new name 'Zaphenath-Paneah' which means "God speaks and He lives". He was also given a beautiful wife named Asenath who was daughter of the priest of On. He began travels throughout all the land of Egypt to administer his responsibilities in saving the land. The whole Mass setting contains Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei and also an organ voluntary based on the themes.
A version for 3 part mixed choir (Soprano, Alto and Men) and organ is also available at:
http://dwsolo.musicaneo.com/sheetmusic/sm-185192_mass_for_three_part_mixed_choir_and_organ.html
Because of its gently exotic modal flavours, the music was deemed to have a ring of "oriental promise" by one appreciative member of the congregation at the first performance.
This setting has been sung in Cathedrals in Manchester, Southwell and Dublin and the Agnus has also featured in services at Christ Church Didsbury.
The recording here is the Agnus Dei sung by the Voluntary Choir of Manchester Cathedral during their visit to Southwell Minster. less
