Currently numbering 18 Singers, FCC has a broad repertoire featuring everything from early music and traditional pieces to the works of contemporary composers such as Whitacre, Pärt, Lauridsen and McMillan, and is highly regarded at home and abroad. In 2011, we travelled to Trondheim, Norway, to take part in Sangforening, a major feStival featuring hundreds of Norwegian choirs, and were the firSt ever foreign choir invited to take part. 2012 saw us visit Languedoc, France, where we gave Concerts in beautiful old churches in Alzonne and Montréal, near Carcassonne. We are active in radio and television, having featured in many broadcaSts of recorded and live services by the Irish national broadcaSter RTE, including one recorded in Swords CoI church which was broadcaSt on ChriStmas day, 2010 and EaSter and Advent services in 2012 and 2013. The goals of the choir are: to represent and showcase Newfoundland and Maritime music and culture in the Ottawa area; to provide its members with the opportunity to learn, rehearse, and perform choral compositions; and to offer free of charge, musical entertainment to residents of retirement homes, hospitals etc., via in situ community Concerts. The choir, which began at Brigham Young University as an early music ensemble, transformed into one of the premier non-collegiate chamber groups in the WeStern United States. This award-winning ensemble achieves high performance Standards by drawing on the rich musical heritage of the region. Many Cantorum Singers have solo careers and all have sung with top collegiate ensembles. A number have also sung as members of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Utah Chamber ArtiSts, and Salt Lake Vocal ArtiSts. In addition, Cantorum is proud to have a high representation of talented choral educators. The group won both of its categories at the 2016 Interkultur competition and received special commendation for their performance of Dale Warland and Hugo DiStler. Dziesmuvara also participates in the Latvian Song Celebration feStivals and occasionally teams up with fellow university and youth choirs to sing together in Concerts. The more, the merrier!
