It has been declared one of the state songs of Louisiana as a result of its association with former state governor and country music singer Jimmie Davis who, along with one Charlie Mitchell, bought the "rights" to the song from Paul Rice (of the Rice Brothers Gang who first recorded it) for $35 in late 1939; Jimmie Davis published it, with "words and music by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell". There are still people alive, however, who remember hearing the song long before 1937 and what these people remember is the name of the musician with whom Paul Rice played in the early 1930's: Oliver Hood of LaGrange, Georgia. Contrary claims notwithstanding, Oliver Hood wrote "You Are My Sunshine." The fabulous amazing spectacular Carol Stenson is their long standing director. South Salem took FIRST PLACE at Oregon's State Competition. This was their second song of four. This whole competition took place at George Fox University in Newburg Oregon. The South Salem Saxons also took first at their Districts festival in Salem/Keizer Oregon. Also Richard Wagner was a honor member of the choir. We are very proud of this facts. But current we are a chor, wich singing manly oratories. The last project was "Die Schöpfung" von Joseph Haydn. This days we rehearse Parts of famous Masses from Beethoven, Bruckner und Mozart. These Compositions would be a part of a special concert - a workshop-concert. In german it is called a _Gesprächskonzert_. The wellknown austrian composer _Balduin Sulzer_ will cuduct this concert. It happens at 8 of December 2012 17:00 in the Minoriten-Church in Linz.  less
