Moses Hogan (1957-2003) Spiritual Moses Hogan was an internationally renowned pianist, composer and arranger of choral music best known for his arrangements of spirituals. He studied with a full scholarship at Oberlin Conservatory of Music before continuing with his graduate studies at Julliard School of Music. He won several piano competitions during his performance years and published many CD's as well as songbooks. 'Hold On!' is an example of his 'soloist vs choir' style of spiritual arrangements. There is a solo throughout that sings the primary lyrics and message of the song while the rest of the choir provides a lively and energetic - often rhythmic - accompaniment. Among these are Joseph's brothers, who do not recognize him (although he recognizes them). He accuses them of being spies and orders them to leave one of them, Simeon, here in jail while they go home and return with their youngest brother Benjamin (who did not come the first time).  less

The carollers, an a cappella group, formed in 1977 by director Pierre Massie, is ranked amongst the best of Ottawa choirs by choral critics. We are a non-profit organization, and raise funds for local charities through concert, CD and cookbook sales. This version of "Iesous Ahatonnia" will be included in our next Xmas CD.
