The song asks "who will look after this child, for it is truly without parents?" eMarabini is sung with a new meaning today as South Africa's orphan population continues to increase due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The feeling behind this song is driven by a sense of hope rather than despair; as it was sung to win past struggles, it is now sung to overcome present struggles as well." Moses Hogan (1957-2003) Spiritual Moses Hogan was an internationally renowned pianist, composer and arranger of choral music best known for his arrangements of spirituals. He studied with a full scholarship at Oberlin Conservatory of Music before continuing with his graduate studies at Julliard School of Music. He won several piano competitions during his performance years and published many CD's as well as songbooks. 'Hold On!' is an example of his 'soloist vs choir' style of spiritual arrangements. There is a solo throughout that sings the primary lyrics and message of the song while the rest of the choir provides a lively and energetic - often rhythmic - accompaniment.
