Inspired by the majesty and relentless power of glaciers, this composition uses them as a metaphor, transposing their might onto the people who, through their presence, shape us and leave an indelible mark. In each of us, these individuals are like giants who, much like glaciers, move mountains and sculpt valleys, paving the way for us to find our destiny. Through the simplest and most primitive elements of life, we find the essence of what shapes us day by day. It is in the everyday, in the elemental, where the strength that transforms us and prepares us to face the world’s challenges is hidden.  less

Since its formation in 1964, the choir appears annually at the Welsh Proms and has performed with many of the world’s leading conductors, orchestras and soloists including: Sir Colin Davies; Sir Andrew Davies; Tadaaki Otaka; Owain Arwel Hughes; The London Symphony Orchestra; BBC National Orchestra of Wales; The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; Raphael Wallfisch, Luciano Pavarotti; Dame Kiri Te Kanawa; Felicity Lott and Bryn Terfel. We have also sung for both the Queen and Nelson Mandela. The choir’s versatility has led to countless recordings and broadcasts on both Radio and Television, most recently on BBC Radio 4. Commissioning of New works remains high on the choir’s artistic agenda alongside an active tradition of promoting the work of Welsh composers, notably that of William Mathias, Alun Hoddinott, Geraint Lewis, John Metcalf & Mervyn Burtch.
