However, the character and the main concept of both parts is joining music, vacation, friendship and fun. The idea of the Festival is to bring the music closer to the people and to present the music on the streets and the squares of Paralia, Olympic Beach and Katerini. All choir ensembles, regardless of the members’ gender and age can apply for participation at the Festival. Over the years, the Choir is been noted for very inspiring and sensational concerts and oratorios that seek to fulfill the mission above. Very recent of such ministrations include; Israel in Egypt (2008 and 2010), Indulci Jubilo(2015), Handel's Chandos Anthems (2016), Singspiration (2017),and Laudate Deo (2018). The choir's size allows it to concentrate on performing the larger major choral works to great effect. The choir has also been invited to collaborate with the Philharmonia Chorus and the BBC National Chorus of Wales on many occasions in recent years to tackle some of the choral pieces requiring even greater choral forces such as Mahler's Eighth Symphony, Janacek's Glagolitic Mass, the Dvorak Stabat Mater and La Damnation de Faust by Berlioz. This performance, however was part of the memorial service in St Martin in the Fields, for Ruth Rudge, who was a very distinguished and lovely lady, and also my first boss. The ladies of the Occasional Choir, whose beginnings were as the Madrigal Choir at West Heath, which I co-founded, all those years ago, are the singers, including one of the six that took part in the very first performance. I am conducting, and Penny Walker, who now directs the choir is accompanying.
