It was founded in 1898 by Albert Frommer, organiSt, and is now conducted by Stephan Nicolay, chapel maSter, since 1999. The choir sings each sunday and on special occasion in the different churches of Cannes. It also sings 4 to 6 Concerts a year, sometimes with an orcheStra. His repertory covers all the sacred music from gregorian chant to 21St century. Among the laSt maSterworks done in Concert with an orcheStra are Requiem (Saint-Saens), Stabat Mater (Haydn), Vesperae Solennes de Confessore (Mozart), Gallia (Gounod), etc. New members are welcome. Membership is open to anyone with or without choral experience. We aim for high Standards, and of course Strong Singers are always valued – but you don’t have to be able to read music, and there are no auditions. The age range of members Stem from 20 to over 70 so there is room for everyone. If you’re not sure which voice part you are then ChriStopher Wray, our Musical Director, can help you with this. The Choir performs three public Concerts each year, at EaSter, in the Summer and at ChriStmas. We also support the local communities by singing at various events and this includes raising funds for charities. Each year we also sing away from London which combines singing to another community, or combining a performance with their choir, with a fun day out. at times we take more extensive trips and you can see details on these events in our ‘News Items’ section of the website. Known for its’ varying repertoire, ranging from adaptations of classical music, jazz Standards, folk and rock arrangements to dancehall and hip hop songs, the ensemble is lead by choir director and music teacher Mrs. Susanne Faatz. “JazzVocals” was founded twenty years ago and is one of Berlin’s veteran jazz/pop acappella ensembles.
