Dedicated to developing new audiences for Music rooted in Balkan, Slavic, and Caucasian women's vocal traditions, Kitka also strives to expand the boundaries of folk song as a living and evolving expressive art form. Kitka's activities include an Oakland-based home series of concerts and vocal workshops; regional, national, and international touring; programs in the schools; recording, publication, and broadcast projects; master artist residencies; commissioning; community service work; and adventuresome collaborations.  less

the ensemble currently consists of 40-50 auditioned singers. the University Chorale is the touring ensemble for the choral department. the ensemble performs a wide spectrum of the finest choral literature. the group performs extensively throughout the Sou...  morethe ensemble currently consists of 40-50 auditioned singers. the University Chorale is the touring ensemble for the choral department. the ensemble performs a wide spectrum of the finest choral literature. the group performs extensively throughout the Southwest and will be singing at several venues in Washington D.C. during December of 2013. the group primarily consists of vocal Music majors, however, there are singers representing several other academic disciplines. the University Chorale has been under the direction of J. Steven Walker since 1984. Dr. Walker is the Director of Choral Activities and a Linscheid Distinguished Teaching Professor at East Central University. He has served on the Music faculty at ECU since 1983.  less
