It was born thanks to its director, Ludovico (Dodo) Versino, who instilled the love for Choral music in high school students all across Rome, which led them all to become friends. It doesn’t have an exact date of birth, because it began as a way to get together, rather than as a formal choir. They don’t have a uniform, a fixed meeting place, or a specific repertoire genre. The opening passage is: “Border, sanctuary, asylum, bridges not walls.” The text draws from (and paraphrases) several sources: contemporary media, Emma Lazarus’ “The New Colossus,” the Bible’s Matthew 25:31-40, currency, and others. The changing meters of “Border” fill the work with an uptempo, rhythmic energy that propels it forward. “Border” is a call for justice, empathy and compassion, a summons to our collective conscience. All of our singers have been hand-picked and sing with some of the top amateur and professional choirs in the country, including: I Fagiolini, Genesis Sixteen, The Carice Singers, Renaissance, The National Youth Choir of Great Britain and many more.
