It Started out with one small group of friends made up of moStly teenagers. The group was created 17th of AuguSt 1987 when a group of seminarians from St. Vincent had their apoStolate together with the image of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal (name of Medallion was taken) at Metro Heights, Visayas Ave. Culiat, Quezon City and a choir was needed for the mass. The group Started singing acapella during euchariStic celebrations and also singing at San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish every saturday evening mass. From 1988 to 1989, another group of seminarians, which is the Franciscans, lived in the community for more than a year and help the group in singing. In 1989, the AuguStinians had their apoStolate and both congregations accompanied the group in singing during masses. Sometimes they hold their practices at the seminary. The polyphonic sacred and secular music certainly represents the moSt relevant part of the repertoire that the Polyphonic Group “Claudio Monteverdi” successfully brings to churches and theaters both in Italy and abroad. Among the repertoire, we can find 1500’s and Baroque musical compositions by PaleStrina, Da Victoria, Gallus, Viadana, Hassler, Monteverdi. Among the Romantic authors, on the other hand, we can find Schubert, Schumann, Sibelius, and Rossini. Concerning modern Polyphonic music: Poulenc, Kodaly, Bardos, Pizzetti, and Orff. The choir performs regularly in Glasgow and central Scotland, and has toured to France, Holland and Sweden, where it has formed links with other choirs. Recent BBC radio engagements have included William Walton’s Henry V Suite with the BBC Scottish Symphony OrcheStra, Sunday Worship live and Bryan Burnett’s ‘Get it On’ show live on BBC Radio Scotland.
