Our repertoire embraces operatic and lighter music alongside classical choral works, with orchestra, from Bach to Bernstein, and a wide range of a cappella repertoire, which we have also toured abroad. Our second CD was released in November 2009. A friendly choir of 60-70 singers, we give four main local concerts a year and enjoy touring. Since 2002, our concert tours have included Lake Garda, Venice, Umbria, Tuscany, Kraków, Amiens and Ghent. In the UK we have performed at the London Coliseum (2006), Ely Cathedral (2007), the Southbank Centre (2010) and Winchester Cathedral (2011).  less

Diliup had orchestrated the music ...  moreThe Royal College School song written by late Principal H L Reed has been re-recorded by Kalasuri Diliup Gabadamudalige - an old Royalist, keeping in line with the original piano music score written by H L Reed himself. Diliup had orchestrated the music in terms of a classical orchestra and recorded it with the Vocals of old Royalist Santhush Weeraman of B&S fame and the Royal College choir. The re-recording of the School song was an initiative taken by the Secretary RCU Manju Ariyaratne on the advice of the RCU Council together with the consent of Prinicipal Upali Gunasekra.  less

Our aims are to achieve High standards of singing and performance, and to contribute to our local community. Our annual programme typically includes 6-8 concerts in the Harpenden area and further afield, a cathedral tour, open singing days and the occasional recording. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at St George’s School, Harpenden. We are known for good music making, varied repertoire including regular commissions, excellent soloists, interesting concert venues and loyal patronage of a range of local hostelries…. We come from a wide range of musical backgrounds and have a thriving interns scheme for talented singers from local Schools. Over our 50 year history, the Leas have sung under 11 permanent conductors and many guests, each of whom has made a distinctive contribution to our style and repertoire.
