Originating from a Leicestershire yout...  moreThe Chanterelles performing My Love Dwelt in a Northern Land by Edward Elgar at the 2012 Llangollen International Eisteddfod. Conducted by Dr Shirley Court. The Chanterelles is a ladies choir from all over the UK. Originating from a Leicestershire youth choir and reforming as an adult choir in February 2009, members now come together to perform about five times each year. Having tasted success as a Youth choir in Llangollen in 1998, the choir returned in their new guise as a Female choir In July 2010, winning their section and taking their place in the choir of the World competition. This success was followed by concerts in Macclesfield and Birmingham and a win at the North Wales Choral Festival in November 2011. In 2012, the choir competed in the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition at the Cork Choral Festival and won 2nd prize in this year's International Eisteddfod in Llangollen. (Www.africanyouthchoir.org) This biennial project is organizing a technical course with cultural exchange during a Summer camp for two weeks in an African country. Then the choir is prepared to perform in major events in Africa, or to represent Africa in major festivals included in the global agenda of choral singing. The desire is to gather young singers from around Africa for integration through song, to enrich their cultural diversity, to to become messengers of peace on the continent and throughout the world, but also a model of multiculturalism. 40 singers from 10 african countries are selected after testing (16 to 26 years old) and work with an experienced conductor.
