NOON I look into the sky, Where cirrus clouds collide, Laze in the summer light, While the breeze talks to me. EVENING A time for rose-red thought, Long shadows casting, Memories fleeting, Fading and fraught. DUSK Dusk is for grieving, And for private tears. Three merry ghosts—three merry ghosts— three merry ghosts are we: Let the ocean be port, and we’ll think it good sport To be laid in that red sea. With songs that jovial spectres chaunt, Our old refectory still we haunt. The traveller hears our midnight mirth: "O list!" he cries, "the haunted choir!" The merriest ghost that walks the earth, Is sure the ghost of a ghostly friar. Too often today, it can feel easier to unfriend, unfollow, or simply part ways with others when they seem unworthy of our effort. Yet to truly understand and love one ano...  morePROGRAM NOTES: With the growing hate and division in our world, love must prevail. Too often today, it can feel easier to unfriend, unfollow, or simply part ways with others when they seem unworthy of our effort. Yet to truly understand and love one another requires fierce determination. It demands listening with openness rather than tuning out in order to respond defensively. It asks us to compromise—even when that means agreeing to disagree. Ultimately, all of this is only possible if we choose to live with the will to love. Musically, I sought to capture both determination and collective unity through texture and rhythmic drive. The use of canonic writing on the text “I sing” symbolizes individual voices rising together toward a shared purpose. Likewise, the primary rhythmic motive in the secondo piano part reflects the persistence and passion of the human heart—the unyielding fire that propels us forward through hardship.
