He had retired 12 years previously. What was once a packed out mass full of joy and prayer, families and young couples, singles and religious, was now a quieter mass with no choir and I saddened by this. I offered my services as a singer and musician to come and provide music for the 5:30 mass and within a few short weeks I returned to the place I consider my spiritual home. I had not purposely set out to start a choir but people began to approach me with a desire to sing and it was a need within the community I was not going to Ignore. On the 12th Dec 2008 The Jes Gospel Choir was birthed with 5 Singers and me & it was a wonderful experience and we received a very warm welcome. This is our first virtual choir, created October-December 2020 on Dharug, Eora and Kuring-gai land. After performing Ola Gjeilo's 'The Ground' in our final concert in 2019, we were preparing it again for our 'Indomitable Spirit' concert in May 2020. Then, Covid-19 arrived. Like many choirs, we kept going online, or outdoors when permitted. This film is a record of our year, made to remind ourselves that joy and connection are still available to us, despite distance and change. The University Chorale is the touring ensemble for the choral department. The ensemble performs a wide spectrum of the finest choral literature. The group performs extensively throughout the Southwest and will be singing at several venues in Washington D.C. during December of 2013. The group primarily consists of vocal music majors, however, there are Singers representing several other academic disciplines. The University Chorale has been under the direction of J. Steven Walker since 1984. Dr. Walker is the Director of Choral Activities and a Linscheid Distinguished Teaching Professor at East Central University. He has served on the music faculty at ECU since 1983.  less
