Ensemble Laude is a community of women united by a passion for choral music and the vision of our Artistic Director, Elizabeth Macisaac. We celebrate the beauty and resilience of women’s vocal traditions through the ages and seek to share this art form through joyful, soulful, and life-enhancing performances that gladden the heart, lift the spirit, and expand the mind. Ensemble Laude began in 1998 with a group of 12 singers focused solely on medieval music. It has since expanded into a vibrant community choir of over 50 vocalists. Today, our concerts offer an eclectic repertoire, mostly unaccompanied, encompassing early music, sacred and secular works, and folk and World music. Our members are mainly from around the Castlebar area, but with five from Ballinrobe, more from Swinford, Kilkelly and Ballyglass we now truly represent our county. Under the musical direction of Deirdre Lee, from Kiltimagh, Deirdre has been our musical director since the choir’s inception, an honors music graduate of University College Maynooth, having studied under Professor Gerard Gillen. She has been involved in many musicals and events as musical director, arranged and conducted. Deirdre is a teacher of music, choir and orchestra in St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Castlebar. In the World Choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz Choir became the 'World CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got the 'second prize' in Mixed Choirs category. Also winning ... is).getParent().getNext().style.display='';$(this).getParent().style.display='none';">moreisplay:none;">In the World Choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz Choir became the 'World CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got the 'second prize' in Mixed Choirs category. Also winning 2 more gold medals in 'Grand Prix of Choral Music' the champions competed in, the choir has come back to Turkey with a total of 5 gold medals.
