Together these w...  moreIn English- Chamber Choir Cantinovum (established in 1989) is the youthful and ambitious choir of the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (JAMK) directed by Rita Varonen. Their name originates from the Latin words canti and novum. Together these words become the identity of the choir and mean 'New song'. At present, there are approximately 30 Singers in the choir for whom music is a passionate interest – for many it is also a future profession. Many of the Singers, either study or work at the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences or the University of Jyväskylä. The repertoire of Cantinovum is colorful and varied. It spans from folk music to sacred music and from Renaissance to modern composers. It is very characteristic of Cantinovum to perform songs that have been specially composed for them. They have had the honour of premiering more than a dozen compositions both nationally and internationally. The choir begins by emulating...  more“The Wind” was commissioned by the Organization of American Kodály Educators as a result of Rich Campbell winning the Ruth Boshkoff Composition Prize. The text is from Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1885 A Child’s Garden of Verses. The choir begins by emulating the sound of the wind, and then sings directly to the wind, describing the many things the wind does while questioning just who or what the wind is. The piece, inspired by Kodály’s philosophy, develops a folk-like melody in a modern context. The rhythmic piano accompaniment keeps the piece bouncing brightly until its exciting conclusion. Highlights of recent seasons include highlights from the 80′s rock musical ‘Chess,’ ’Messiah’, by G.F. Handel, Gloria, by Vivaldi, the Durufle Requiem, the Pope Marcellus Mass by Palestrina, Magnificat by J.S. Bach and Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna. During the summer, Cantate presents the Pacific Summer Music Festival which hosts guest musicians such as the nation’s most beloved choral conductor, Dr. Weston Noble, concert pianists, Itay Goren and Frank Pavese and the Grammy-nominated string ensemble, Quartet San Francisco. It is honor for me that somebody used my work that I wrote for State Dance Company of Belarus many years ago. Watch this painful, dramatic scenes which occurred the night, August 9th., after not honest presidential election 2020. These three beautiful and brave ladies could raise the People of Belarus against current president giving them hope of Victory.  less
