PROGRAM NOTES
Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem is often called a “human” Requiem, and that word points to both the text he chose and the life he was living while writing it. Between the mid‑1850s and the late 1860s, he was drawn into the Schumann household, deeply attached to Clara Schumann, marked by the death of Robert Schu... less

is an award winning, all women's barbershop group based in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, (UAE). Founded in 2005, VOH has been entertaining Abu Dhabi audiences ever since!
We have members of all skill levels and are a multicultural group. We use professionally made voice tracks to help learn our parts with precision, thus allowing us to put aside our sheet music and really enjoy the magic of hearing all the harmonies merged into the ringing chords of the Barbershop style!
It’s the blend of these unique vocal parts that creates the space for an exciting ensemble. Barbershop singing style is unaccompanied, and creates four-part a cappella harmony.
Although barbershop-style music is usually built on simple melodies and is relatively easy to sing,
the "a cappella style" and the ear training necessary for independent part singing make it one of the most challenging and rewarding accomplishments of a vocal ensemble.
A “friendly” audition is required, and a commi... less

A Prayer for Chanukah
We thank you for the wonders, for the liberation, for the powerful actions and deeds of deliverance, performed by you, and for the victories of our ancestors in their struggles in ancient times at this time of year.
In the days of the Hasmonean, Mattathias, child of Johanan the High Priest, and his children, a tyrant rose up against the people of Israel to make them forget your laws and violate the rules of your commandments, then, in your abounding compassion, you rose up for them in their time of distress;... less
