We won our first Regional competition and are preparing to compete at International contest in October. We really enjoying competing and entertaining with our bi-annual shows and occasional singouts in and around the Detroit area. Come have fun singing with us at our Tuesday night rehearsals! From its first steps it attracted attention to the musical community and it also achieved a significant success. Since 2000, the choir led by honored artist of Belarus Natalia Mihailova. Sacred music and jazz, classical and modern music organically and naturally coexist in the repertoire of the choir. The creative possibilities of the collective, consisting of 30 professional musicians, are inexhaustible. They constantly work on new programs of Russian works (D. Bortniansky, P. Tchaikovsky, S. Rachmaninov, G.Sviridov) and Western classics (I.S.Bach, G.Gendel, D.Bukstehude, W.A. Mozart). Then they prepared premieres of works by contemporary Belarusian composers as S.Kortes, V.Kopytko, A. As the premiere chorale ensemble at OSU, the OSU Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr. Steven Zielke, has garnered national attention and international awards. While touring Eastern Europe in 2001, the choir received the Grand Prize at the Festival of Light in Bulgaria, and in April 2006, the Chamber Choir was selected as the only collegiate mixed choir from outside of the state of Utah to perform at the 60th Music Educators National Biennial Conference in Salt Lake City. The choir has performed in many exciting venues, including a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Smetana Hall in Prague and at Strathov Monastery in Prague Castle, the first choir allowed to perform in the monastery in decades. Over the past 12 years, we have trained five generations of young performers from across the School as part of our extra-curricular music programme. Specialising in acappella African vocals, our performances are enhanced with dynamic percussion and traditional dance. Many arrangements are created by the group's Musical Director, Mr Steve Cook, and by the students themselves. Our repertoire includes a range of traditional and contemporary African songs in a variety of languages. Over the years, this outstanding group has developed a reputation for thrilling, breathtaking and energetic performances at School concerts and further afield.
