Text based on the poem "Digapoli" by Giulio Pedranzini.
"Digapoli" was the name of the small village where the workers who built the Cancano dam lived. The Cancano dam is located in Valtellina, in norther Italy.
Canta, operaio, canta a gola piena,
che non abbiamo galli per destarci,
non abbiamo campane.
Se la tua voce sa di vino ancora
(bevuto a tarda notte alla taverna)
è lieta la tua voce, l'eco chiara
nell'aria sgombrata dai sogni.
Forse quest'alpe che la mina strazia
altri inni non ha che la tua frusta

Antiphon:
Favus distillans labia tua sponsa
et odor vestimentorum tuorum sicut odor thuris.
Chorus:
Lauda, Jerusalem, Dominum,
lauda Deum tuum, Sion.
Quoniam confortavit
seras portarum tuarum:
benedixit filiis tuis in te.
Qui posuit fines tuos pacem
et adipe frumenti satiat te.
Qui emittet eloquium suum terrae:
Velociter currit sermo eius.
Qui dat nivem sicut lanam,
nebulam sicut cinerem spargit.
Mittit crystallum suam sicut buccellas.
Ante faciem frigoris eius quis sustinebit?
Emittet verbum suum
et liquefaciet ea,
flabit spiritus eius
et fluent aquae.
Qui annuntiat verbum suum Jacob,
iustitias et iudicia sua Israel.
Non fecit taliter omni nationi,
et iudicia sua non manifestavit eis.

Music and space
Have you ever wondered why a certain piece of music fits better in one room than another?
Acoustics play a big part, of course; but there is so much more to it than that.
Visuality is more important to a concert than one would think. The lights ...

A few years later, Kevin Fenton programmed that piece for his choir at FSU. He shared with me his strong connection with the piece at a time when his sister-in-law, Peggy Fenton was also fighting breast cancer. Sadly, Peggy Fenton lost her fight with cancer in 2009. That same year Kevin contacted me and asked if I would write a piece in her memory for her husband and her two daughters. He shared with me a video of a presentation she did at the Mother’s Day banquet at her church, just a few days before her passing.
The title of her presentation was “From Hats to Crown”. She shared stories about her life and the many relationship roles one plays: as a daughter, a sister, as a wife, a mother and a teacher. As she talked about each role she wore a different hat. She ended with a crown, shar... less
