He had retired 12 years previously. What was once a packed out mass full of Joy and prayer, families and young couples, singles and religious, was now a quieter mass with no choir and I saddened by this. I offered my services as a singer and musician to come and provide music for the 5:30 mass and within a few short weeks I returned to the place I consider my spiritual home. I had not purposely set out to start a choir but people began to approach me with a desire to sing and it was a need within the community I was not going to Ignore. On the 12th Dec 2008 The Jes Gospel Choir was birthed with 5 singers and me & it was a wonderful experience and we received a very warm welcome. This was the fourth and last Song performed in the final round of Folklore Acappela Category -- World Choir Games 2006 in Xiamen, China. After winning the qualification round, ITB Choir won a silver medal in the final round and was ranked in the tenth place.

This new version by Kirsten Pagel, is for a female quartet, with rich dark harmonies and a tender, aching feel. We dedicate it to all who have passed through war, both in the past and unfortunately now, in the present. We also sing it for those within our communities that have recently lost a loved one. It has been such a difficult time to be grieving. We sing it for you to remember the best times, the friendship and the comradery and most of all, for the love that you shared together. Our charity for this Song, is South Brent and District Caring, a small charity that looks after people in the community, provides crisis relief and comfort.
