Die Ursprünge des Europäischen Kammerchores liegen beim internationalen Chorleitungskurs in St. Moritz (Schweiz) im Jahre 2003. Seitdem treffen sich die engagierten Chorsängerinnen und -sänger aus Deutschland und den europäischen Nachbarstaaten mehrmals im Jahr in Köln zu konzentrierten Probenphasen, in denen anspruchsvolle Chorprogramme erarbeitet und dem Publikum vorgestellt werden. Dabei widmet sich der Chor immer wieder gern jenen Kleinodien des unbegleiteten Gesanges, die in Kirche und Konzertsaal seltener zu hören sind, ohne dabei die großen Werke vergangener Epochen außer Acht zu lassen. Entsprechend umfasst das Portfolio der Sängergemeinschaft beispielsweise neben nahezu vergessenen Perlen der romantischen A-cappella-Literatur auch mehrere Aufführungen der Bach‘schen Johannes-Passion, Uraufführungen von Michael Ostrzyga und Harald Weiß sowie zahlreiche Werke der neueren und neuesten Chormusik. Its first members were students of the Club's Music School and many of them participated in the Youth Choir of the city of Heraklion, under the direction of Mrs. Katerina Tzagkaraki. the name of the ensemble originates from Thalitas, an ancient cretan composer and legislator, after whom a street in Heraklion is named; in this street the first rehearsals of the ensemble took place. the ensemble's primary goal was to acquaint its members with the a cappella (“in the chapel”, without church organ accompaniment) vocal Music of the renaissance period. THALITAS began by studying and performing works of renowned composers of that era (e.g. Josquin des Prez, G. Although relatively small in number, the Choir is accomplished in singing Music in both double and triple Choir form. Particular specialisms include the works of William Byrd, Thomas Tallis and Tómas Luis da Victoria. the Choir has performed in many prestigious venues in Europe, including Notre-Dame in Paris, Chartres cathedral and Versailles. Events such as the Prague Spring International Festival (Czech Republic) have also featured the Choir. In 2006, in Budapest, the Choir performed Tallis’s towering 40-part motet Spem in Alium, with the internationally renowned Budapest Monteverdi Choir.
