Its dazzling imagery is reflected in Henderson's score, commissioned with financial assistance from the Diane Loomer Commissioning Fund for Elektra Women's Choir and premiered at the choir's 2009 Chez Nous: Christmas with Elektra concerts. The Boychoir’s reputation for excellence has brought invitations from local and National music conventions, as well as sporting events and touring Broadway companies. The Boychoir has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Minnesota Opera, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, the Prague Philharmonic, Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion on National Public Radio, amongst others. This season our choirboys will be featured in Minnesota American Choral Directors Association’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Golden Finale Concert along with first-time appearances with the Wayzata Symphony Orchestra, Edina Chorale and St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church Choir (Orff’s Carmina Burana). We will participate in the third annual Minnesota State Festival of Boychoirs in April. The familiar African American song, “Angels watching over me” is given cantus firmus treatment while a lilting African lullaby, "Abiyoyo" gently sways around it. The Bantu song, "Abiyoyo" is traditionally sung at bedtime as a song to entrance night time monsters into a dancing state; mother and father can then chase the monsters away so baby can safely sleep. This was the first group to become active at Academia Concerto in 2005 and during this time has made significant projects such as the participation in the Opera "Il Capulletti ed Il Montecchi" by Bellini, with first complete performance in Brazil in São Pedro Theatre - São Paulo, sang the American Musical "Video Games Live" with composer Jack Wall, made a joint presentation with the American choir "BYU Singers", performed Vivaldi’s "Beatus Vir" RV 579 for two choirs and orchestra with Madrigal Mackenzie.
