This is the abridged version of "The 21st Century (A Girl Born in Afghanistan)," a setting for mixed choir of excerpts from Kofi Annan's Nobel Peace Prize lecture. Performed by the Southwest Minnesota State University Chorale under Stephen Kingsbury.

His childhood friend, the presbytery Osvaldo Catena, assembled the texts, amongst which is the Peace message of Pope John Paul II of 1979. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
