The Community Choir of Arizona is dedicated to making it easier to say “yes” to singing and helping you rediscover the Joy of making music! We teach you how to sing, push your musical limits, and offer a space to interact with fellow community members.

The Society's 200 members come from all walks of life to volunteer their time for the Joy of making music together. In addition to its concert programs, the Society works to further oratorio singing and provides young singers with the opportunity to advance their careers through the annual Lyndon Woodside Oratorio-Solo Competition.

To have control over something matterless, we control it with the knowledge about it and thus gain power over it. The almost sinister thought “I'll tell you. You're young, but you're one of us, and I'm one of us, so I'll tell you.” gives the Toxic Psalms its tone. For in the background of the whole concert arch death utters and murderous plague intones. Through the music the project reflects Palestine, Syria, Pussy Riots, weapons, concentration camps, blood feuds, extinctions, contaminations of religions and creates a picture of human brutality. The living of a man is changed into a drama here and now: men killing for the glory of their psalms. Plaisir Ensemble was found in March 2005 by renowned tenor and conductor Mr. Man Kin-Ping, the Art Director and Conductor of the Ensemble. The members of the Ensemble are all amateurs and have the same ideal that their performance can touch the heart ...  morePlaisir Ensemble was found in March 2005 by renowned tenor and conductor Mr. Man Kin-Ping, the Art Director and Conductor of the Ensemble. The members of the Ensemble are all amateurs and have the same ideal that their performance can touch the heart of every audience through their well-trained voices. Their repertoires include folk songs, classical songs, musical pieces, pops, and premiere works by renowned composers. In March 2011, Plaisir Ensembe achieved a great success in the “1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition” organized by the INTERKULTUR. They won the Gold Diploma, the Category Winner as well as the Overall Winner of Chamber Choirs. The Ensemble is one of the Top 50 Female Choirs in the Musica Mundi World Ranking List.  less

We are an auditioned chamber choir of 30-40 members who love sharing the Joy of choral singing with each other and our community. Our regular season consists of at least 4 concerts featuring a variety of musical genres and styles. Because we seek to create meaningful musical experiences, we value interaction and education in our performances. Our audience members often tell us how much they love learning about the music from our director’s comments, which help them more fully enter into the music and enJoy it.  less

So I thought: it's about time I brought the ideas together :-)

The piece was written for the 50th anniversary of the Habaneras Contest in Torrevieja, Spain. The musical writing has nothing of a traditional habanera. The constant habanera rhythm is not present but must be felt as an internal rhythm. What I have included is the alternation of minor and major modes so typical of habaneras.
