It is well known as an ico...  moreGOSPEL Singers WANTED, Audition 5th & 6th July 2021 – Black History Month Background Union Chapel is a historic church based in Islington with a small but enthusiastic congregation looking to expand our horizons. It is well known as an iconic music venue attracting major artists. It is also a centre for social justice and community activities. In recent years, the church has been developing music in our Sunday services with a range of genres, classical, jazz, gospel, and world music. The church has also created several unique events led by our musicians. These have included our annual Christmas Candlelight service, Good Friday evening performances and smaller events to commemorate such occasions as Black History Month, a remembrance event in the Covid pandemic. Besides the usual church festivals, we also have special services for Refugee Week, Gay Pride, Holocaust Memorial, and other special commemorations. Glorious history of the Choir is connected with the names of the most prominent Ukrainian choral bandleaders of ХХ-ХХІ centuries, such as G.Taranova, O.Min'kivskyi, V. Min'ko, Y.Taranchenko, G.Kulyaba, V. Mal'cev, P.Muravskyi, V.Skoromnyi. Because of high-level artistic traditions and many professional performances, Choir became a treasure of independent Ukraine. At the present time Yuliya Tkach is an artistic director and main bandleader of the Academic choir of Ukrainian radio. Foreward: Santiago Veros wrote Almas de Barro at the age of 19, dedicating it to a young woman who at the time was shy and with whom he rarely talked. This piece intimately describes the moments during music theory classes when the two would look at each other continuously, youthfully, and silently, as if unable to do anything else.
