Cantate is a mixed-voice youth choir based in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire. It is open to all young Singers, whatever their background and musical upbringing. Cantate comprises three choirs for children and young people which all perform to an exceptionally high standard. Cantate performed at the Royal Albert Hall, both in the BBC and Schools Prom Concerts, the Royal Festival Hall, the Barbican, the Guildhall London, 10 Downing Street, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi, St Mark’s Basilica in Venice, and in many local and regional venues. Cantate has gained many National and interNational awards. In 2008 we achieved interNational acclaim at the world’s largest choral event – the World Choir Games in Graz, Austria – in which over 430 choirs from some 90 countries competed. Cantate won gold and silver medals, and was the only UK choir to win a gold medal in the finals.  less

Currently numbering 18 Singers, FCC has a broad repertoire featuring everything from early music and traditional pieces to the works of contemporary composers such as Whitacre, Pärt, Lauridsen and McMillan, and is highly regarded at home and abroad. In 2011, we travelled to Trondheim, Norway, to take part in Sangforening, a major festival featuring hundreds of Norwegian choirs, and were the first ever foreign choir invited to take part. 2012 saw us visit Languedoc, France, where we gave concerts in beautiful old churches in Alzonne and Montréal, near Carcassonne. We are active in radio and television, having featured in many broadcasts of recorded and live services by the Irish National broadcaster RTE, including one recorded in Swords CoI church which was broadcast on Christmas day, 2010 and Easter and Advent services in 2012 and 2013. It’s been beautifully arra...  moreThis is the story of a woman feeling old and weary and dreaming of the past she had, wondering where those good years have gone. Here, our lovely Singers have made it into a conversation – a shared experienced between the women. It’s been beautifully arranged by Moira Smiley and Vida, but was written by John Prine, a Chicago folk musician. There are two new Singers in this ensemble: Rosi, a deep dark bass, standing back left, and Marie, sitting at the front right with the cowboy hat on. Both Singers have been a wonderful addition to our choir. Adele in the rocking chair, Annabelle standing right, and Katherine with baby Erin (who LOVES harmony!) complete the group, all of which you have seen many times in concert! We love the song and hope you do too. With this song, we are raising money for a charity close to our hearts, Dartmoor Search and Rescue Ashburton. Throughout both lockdowns they have had a huge number of call outs, as more people have been exploring the moors and getting into difficulties. As...    less

This intercultural choir comprises fifteen amateur Singers from several african countries. It was first establishments in 1996 in Dakar by a group of youth who adored the art of singing. The choir consistently performed varions type of music, gathering between both classical and modern music (folklore and interNational). It transcended continents, surpassed réas and diversified its origins from spiritual music, through romantic, to religious and reaching comic music, with a tendency towards african melodies and rythms. It urges us to re-discover and unveil the musical treasures of african continent that dates back to ancestors and to the native people of the Black continent.
