As this piece was meant to represent the early beginnings of human civilization and the birth of language, we have staged the piece in a somewhat tribal way and added jungle sound effects.

Written for the 2011 combined choir of Festival 500 in Newfoundland, Canada. Recorded live on May 3, 2015, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Performed by the Concert Choir and Men's Auxiliary ensembles of the Girl Choir of South Florida. Artistic Director: Wallis Peterson, Accompanist: Gayle Giese. Stars that spill on a melting stem of brilliance down to earth, make landfall here like swans who are burnt by flight. We find an orphan of ashes, a child of chilled obsidian: in the middle of winter we nurture the seeds of stars. On days of silver light at the end of summer, they’ll lift away to resume their long migration. You who’ve been told There’s nothing, nothing to be done, you who have come to a place of broken stones, remember us who have sparked a star from dust, and seen its wings ignite the darkling sky.  less
