As a part of the historic community of Worcester Cathedral, the choir has gained a reputation for musical sensitivity and ground breaking performance. The choir was founded in 1998 by its musical director, Stephen Shellard, in order to draw together a group of high quality singers from the local area to develop a concert repertoire and further enrich the choral tradition of Worcester Cathedral. The establishment of the choir made history as, for the first time since its foundation nearly 1000 years ago, Worcester Cathedral included women's voices as a part of its musical life.  less

The choir has won many awards, including an Emmy and Grammy award, sang for 10 US Presidents, and hosts the longest continual broadcast Music and the Spoken Word (which airs live every Sunday at 9:30am Mountain Standard Time). In August 2009, Mikko Sidoroff started his work as the choir’s conductor. The choir’s repertoire mainly consists of a wide variety of a cappella songs. The choir can be found performing in Turku as well as other cities many times throughout the year. Traditionally, there is a quartet concert in January, a spring concert right after May Day (Vappu) and an advent concert in December. The TYY choir has participated in many venues outside of Turku. The choir represented Finland in the international choir competition in Coleraine, Ireland in 2006. The competition could not have gone any better as the choir won in the category of mixed choir and was given the award as best choir.
