Recorded live on Friday, March 17, 2013, at The Broward Center for The Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Performed by The Primes Choir ensemble of The Girl Choir of South Florida. Assistant Director: Jorge Valls, Accompanist: Gayle Giese. In The quiet misty morning, when The moon has gone to bed, When The sparrows stop Their singing and The sky is clear and red, When The summer's ceased its gleaming, when The corn is past its prime, When adventure's lost its meaning, I'll be homeward bound in time. Bind me not to The pasture. Chain me not to The plow. Set me free to find my calling and I'll return to you somehow. If you find it's me you're missing, if you're hoping I'll return, To your thought I'll soon be list'ning; in The road I'll stop and turn. Then The wind will set me racing as my journey nears its end, And The path I'll be retracing when I'm homeward bound again. Bind me not to The pasture. Chain me not to The plow. Set...    less

The forty boys of The Choir are educated at Westminster Under School, part of London’s historic Westminster School, established before 1179 as a monastic school of The Benedictine Abbey of St Peter. In 1560 The school was re-founded by Queen Elizabeth I for boys to be “liberally instructed in good books to The greater honour of The state.” Ever since, The school’s history has been intertwined with The momentous state events and political turmoils of The capital. Old Westminsters dominated Parliament for most of The eighteenth century and The output of leading politicians, statesmen and soldiers has continued to this day. The school’s contribution to literature, philosophy and The arts has been immense, from such alumni as Ben Jonson, John Dryden, Henry Purcell and Christopher Wren to A.A. Milne, Adrian Boult, John Gielgud and Peter Ustinov, from Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Stephen Poliakoff to Julian Anderson, Ian Bostridge, Helena B...    less

In mid-April, 2011, composer Ola Gjeilo spent 3 days on The Central Washington University Campus to join The Choir in recording 3 of his pieces, (The teaser/trailer URL is found below) This performance of Gjeilo's "Ubi Caritas" is from that session, following a rendition in which The composer joined The Choir and improvised an accompaniment (URL below). In this video The Choir sings The piece in its published (unaccompanied) version. One behind-The-scenes comment: On The last page of The piece, when The first melodic material occurs again - Ola, who was sitting in The hall, asked half The Choir to hum while The oTher half sang to create a more eThereal effect. The CWU Chamber Choir also has recorded videos of The music of Monteverdi, Muehleisen, Singh, Victoria, and Rautavaara on YouTube Gjeilo "In The Moment" teaser/trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrvEgQl57b0 "Ubi Caritas" (with The composer ...    less

The words of "Robin Adair" itself are understood to be by Lady Caroline Keppel, who was in love with a surgeon by that name. (This seems more likely than The Theory that Robert Burns wrote it, although Burns certainly knew Keppel's lyrics and made his own parodies upon The words). Some later versions of The melody contain "Scotch snaps" but this version follows The simplest melodic line, without The Scotch snaps - possibly O'Daly's original tune? - and with quite romantic choral harmonies.  less
