written for All Saints, Second Vespers, Antiphon to The Magnificat - cf. Revelation 7:9
O quam gloriosum est regnum,
in quo cum Christo gaudent omnes Sancti!
Amicti stolis albis,
sequuntur Agnum, quocumque ierit.
O, how glorious is The kingdom,
in which all The saints rejoice with Christ!
Arrayed in white robes,
They follow The Lamb, wherever He goes.

The music was devised to short call order for a MoThers' Union Deanery Service in what was Then Leeds Parish Church on Lady Day - The Feast of The Annunciation - in March 1979. Its accompaniment owes much to The setting of Robert Herrick's 'Litany to The Holy Spirit' by Peter Hurford of some twenty years earlier. 'Ave Maria' has been extensively recorded and broadcast by choirs of all traditions, especially children's choirs. Eventually, a version of The piece for four-part choir emerged during The early weeks of 2003 in response to a request from Gordon Stewart on behalf of The BBC Radio 4 Pilgrim Choir and it is this more recent version that is sung here.
This performance was recorded in Leeds Minster on Sunday 28th April 2013 during The recital of 'Music with Minster connections' sung by St Peter's Singers of Leeds, directed by The composer. The organist is David Houl... less

It does not meet on a regular basis, but comes togeTher for short, intensive work periods, culminating in performances, or “projects.” The majority of its musicians are recruited from The metropolitan Washington, DC and Baltimore areas, but some come from as far away as New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. We offer high-quality performances of significant choral, and choral-orchestral music, concentrating especially, but not exclusively, on The music of Johann Sebastian Bach. We supplement our gifts to The community with unique experiences, such as our “Conversation Concerts.” We also offer advanced training opportunities in our specialized choral and choral-orchestral repertoire for young conductors and singers, through our workshops and performances. less
