Since 1998, it has been gaThering in Poznań young people from various universities - people who are musically talented, active and open to new friendships and exchange of cultural experiences. The Academic Choir of Gdańsk University of Technology performed at The Second Gala Concert of The 16th edition of The festival. The Concert was held in The Adam Mickiewicz University Aula, known for its excellent acoustics. The Choir performed among distinguished performers such as The Academic Choir of Warsaw University, The Academic Choir of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, The Choir of Mahidol University from Thailand, and The percussion duo of Piotr and Bartłomiej Sutt.  less

It typically assembles a Choir for a brief time before each performance, Then disbands until just before The next Concert when a new Choir is formed. The singers may or may not be The same each time. The Choir is known for its freshness of sound and heart felt connections with The listener.

When Santiago and I began to discuss this commission, we kept returning to The subject of mental health and inclusion. In a discussion with students, one student voiced that They “feel excluded and not cared for,” and that Their struggle with mental health “has made [Them] feel alone and helpless.” Santiago begins The piece with an old, quasi-ritualistic melody that calls back to previous times and traditions. As The work continues, The melody unites togeTher with The oTher voices to emulate inclusion and unity of voices. His text draws parallels to nature and how we are able to bloom through The darkness of adversity with The help of oThers. In addition to our annual subscription series, we sing with both The National Arts Centre Orchestra and The Ottawa Symphony Orchestra . The Choir has made five international tours to Italy, Spain, Germany and The Czech Republic and The United Kingdom and Ireland .
