Inspired by the majesty and relentless power of glaciers, this composition uses them as a metaphor, transposing their might onto the people who, through their presence, shape us and leave an indelible mark. In each of us, these individuals are like giants who, much like glaciers, move mountains and sculpt valleys, paving the way for us to find our destiny. Through the simplest and most primitive elements of life, we find the essence of what shapes us day by day. It is in the everyday, in the elemental, where the strength that transforms us and prepares us to face the world’s challenges is hidden.  less

It is one of the only four Filipino choirs to have qualified to join the 14th European Grand Prix for Choral Singing ‑ the world'S most coveted Choral prize. About the work: My sister is an English teacher at the Minnesota International Middle School in Minneapolis which provides a safe and inclusive environment for East African immigrant students to learn (many of whom are Somali). Most of these students came to the USA to escape the violent civil war that has plagued Somalia since 1991. Seeking a better life for their children, these students' parents risked their lives to come to the USA - a valiant act of love. I wanted to tell their story through music and so I asked my sister to have her students write poems about their experiences leaving their home and coming to the USA. I received over 100 poems that contain passion, pride, emotion, and vivid stories of the sights and sounds ...    less

This is footage from their concert at St Stephani, Bremen in December, 2010. The text of this piece is really cool. It is about a mystical tribe of desert women who would stamp their feet into the dust creating beautiful clouds. Light would shine through and create patterns and rainbows. Men would be attracted by these clouds and come to the women's camp. The Wirindji women would cook for them, mate with them then kill them and eat them!
