Video courtesy of Steve Blowers. The members of Bournemouth Male Voice met at central Bournemouth and took a coach off into the depths of Dorset to give a Concert at Tyneham Church. It was an amazing evening – the church absolutely stuffed to capacity the choir uber-vibrant and full of good music. An historic event 70 years on (to the week) from the evacuation of Tyneham and the occasion, the poetry and music stirred up many differing feelings; laughter, poignancy and nostalgia chief amongst them. A privilege to take part in the event – thanks to Lt Col Ken Davies for his perfect organisation of the event – the phrase military precision comes to mind!  less

In addition to a subscription concert series in Edmonton, the choir performs regional concerts in surrounding Alberta centres, and runs a touring program of choral education for primary and secondary schools. Pro Coro has performed at the Toronto International Choral Festival (1994 and 2002), the 1988 Olympic Arts Festival, and Canadian Voices (2003 landmark series of concerts celebrating 50 years of professional choral singing in Canada and R. The music was devised to short call order for a Mothers' Union Deanery Service in what was then Leeds Parish Church on...  moreSimon Lindley's setting of 'Ave Maria' - under the title of 'Litany for Mary' - was produced originally as a setting for upper voices. The music was devised to short call order for a Mothers' Union Deanery Service in what was then Leeds Parish Church on Lady Day - the Feast of the Annunciation - in March 1979. Its accompaniment owes much to the setting of Robert Herrick's 'Litany to the Holy Spirit' by Peter Hurford of some twenty years earlier. 'Ave Maria' has been extensively recorded and broadcast by choirs of all traditions, especially children's choirs. Eventually, a version of the piece for four-part choir emerged during the early weeks of 2003 in response to a request from Gordon Stewart on behalf of the BBC Radio 4 Pilgrim Choir and it is this more recent version that is sung here. This performance was recorded in Leeds Minster on Sunday 28th April 2013 during the recital of 'Music with Minster connections' sung by St Peter's Singers of Leeds, directed by the composer.
