From the beginning our intention was to establish a dialog between ancient vocal music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods and contemporary music from the 20th and 21st centuries. As the vocal requirements of this aim are very important, we pay special attention to the musical and technical preparation of our programmes, in order to provide high quality performances. Our repertory includes ancient and contemporary music and works from composers such as Claudio Monteverdi, William Byrd, Heinrich Schütz, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Thomas Tallis, Vicente Goicoechea, Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc, Vytautas Miskinis, Zoltán Kodaly, Samuel Barber, Benjamin Britten, Astor Piazzolla and Marcos Leite. A CD of his choral music, I am the Song, was released in 2016 on Signum Classics. Bernard’s music featured on the Horrible Histories film Bill (2015), and he co-produced the album, Not Now, Bernard & Other Stories, performed Orchestra of the Swan and Alexander Armstrong, released in February 2020. In January 2020 Bernard’s choral music was featured in a portrait concert by the BBC Singers, and in November 2020 one of the pieces from that concert, I Sing of Love, was nominated by the Ivors Academy for an Ivors Composer Award. With Bernard's kind permission I am releasing this video of my multitrack performance of a part of his mass, dating from around 2006.  less

The choir was established in 1996 (originally in the Lehava High School for Girls) by singer/choral conductor Nomi Teplow with the goal of bringing together girls with musical ability to work on a highly professional level and produce a wide variety of vocal music. The choir is comprised of 25-30 girls from areas throughout Samaria ranging in age from 13-18 years. The Shir-El choir performs in concerts and at vocal conventions across the country bringing fine singing, rich harmonies and words of hope, faith and love of Israel to a broad range of audiences. The Shir E-l Choir has won first place several times in the national choral competition for high school choirs sponsored by the Israel Ministry of Education.
