Founded in 2000 by Carol Woodward Ratzlaff in response to widespread cuts to public school arts programs, 2018-19 marks VIVA!’s 19th season as a downtown family of Choirs. VIVA!’s Choirs include: the Preparatory Chorus (ages 4-6); the Junior Choir (ages 6-10); the Main Chorus (ages 9-16); the SATB Chamber Choir (senior high school, university students and adults); and the non-auditioned VIVA! Community Choir (SATB) which incorporates Everyone Can Sing (ECS), an auditioned group for those aged 13 and up with disabilities. During the forty plus years of its lifetime it has benefited from the leadership of four further conductors, David Griffiths, Margaret Maddock, Len Williams, and our present Director of Music, Carol Davies. The Choir has travelled widely over the years with tours in Europe, United States and Canada besides engagements throughout Wales and England. Our concert venues have varied from village halls to national auditoria and great Cathedrals. In the Eisteddfod field we have won two National first prizes plus several seconds and others. In 2002 we celebrated our 40th anniversary with a sell-out concert in the 1000 seat Great Hall in Aberystwyth. One of the Choirs highlights was performing with the Central Band of the RAF at the Mayflower theatre Southampton and before Princess Beatrice of the Netherlands as part of a joint concert of a 1000 Welsh and Dutch voices. Rendezvous has charmed audiences throughout Canada and the United States with their energetic and fun shows, yet the driving force of these four young men is their dedication to musicality.
