We are made up of 3 different Choirs - Mixed Chorus, Treble Choir, and Concert Choir. All of our members are students at Port Huron Northern High School and range from 13-18 years of age. We all share a love of music and create joy through singing together.

They have been auditioned and selected from a program of 250 singers and identified as the cream of the crop based on their beauty of...  moreSounds of Summit is a group of the best singers, students, musicians, and citizens that Lee’s Summit High School offer. They have been auditioned and selected from a program of 250 singers and identified as the cream of the crop based on their beauty of vocal tone, musical intelligence, sight reading ability and academic achievement. They are also instrumentalists, actors, athletes, student leaders and ambassadors of LSHS. Most importantly, they are students who are DEDICATED to being the best they can be. As a result of these High standards, Sounds of Summit has developed a reputation in Lee’s Summit and around the nation as one of the elite High School level performing ensembles. We are frequently asked to perform with UMKC’s Conservatory, as well as multiple appearances at the Missouri Music Educators Convention. We are also in High demand with community groups for performances around Christmas time. We welcome experienced SATB singers who are keen to perform music of all genres to a High standard in an informal environment. Our ethos: CONTEXT Historical, social and environmental contexts of music, and the influence of these on performance, will be Central to rehearsals and concerts. They will define the themes of our repertoire each year. COLLABORATION Based in Leeds, the Choir has numerous opportunities to collaborate with other ensembles, composers and charities to promote and support musicians throughout the North. We hope to work with a variety of musicians to develop quality and future collaboration within the Choir. COMMUNICATION No music?! Yes, we will perform without sheet music in concerts. Johansen Choirs are truly honored to re...  more The Johansen High School Vocal Music Department provides our students the opportunity to perform great choral literature while entertaining local audiences and performing at a variety of civic and community events. Johansen Choirs are truly honored to represent our community in various capacities as well as having the opportunity to tour throughout California, often giving students their first experience outside of Stanislaus County. We are excited that nearly 60 students will participate in the vocal music program at Johansen High School this year. Last year our Choirs participated in multiple festivals, sang by invitation at many local events and toured San Diego. The department’s Viking Singers won a contest this summer and sang on stage with Foreigner at the County Fair. These talented students have been invited to participate in Gallo Center for the Arts first ever a cappella festival in April 2013.  less

Since 2006, when Gary Weidenaar took the baton, the Choir has received invitations to appear at four state & regional conferences: Meticulous attention is given to performing music of various periods or parts of the world in the style appropriate to that era or culture including adjustments of not only style but tone color also. Recent clinics with guests Chanticleer and Weston Noble have helped the Choir grow and the Choir regularly premiers new works by composers.  less
