Paraire had fallen in love with Kuini but her family refused to give their blessing to a marriage between the two. A lovelorn Paraire composed Pokarekare Ana in which he vowed his eternal love. He declared this passion by Singing Pokarekare Ana at Te Poho-o-Rawiri Marae to Kuini in front of her Ngati Porou elders. The family was won over by his convincing performance and granted him their daughter's hand. How placid are the ripples of restless Waiapu, Dear they know of your returning, from far across the sea. Dear Heart of mine, I'll wait for thee, My love is thine alone, to eternity. This outdoor performance was the culmination of a six-week project which creates a choir from scratch for one night only. We sing repertoire in the styles Jazz, Soul, Gospel, Pop and focus during weekly lessons on blend, enthousiasm, musicality & empowerment of singers through excercises on all the aspects of Singing and Singing in a Vocal Group. We are 2 young ensembles, but we aim towards performing and giving concerts. We are still looking for new singers, also men!  less

In May, 2013, composer Ola Gjeilo spent 3 days on...  more"Ubi Caritas II: Through Infinite Ages" (Ola Gjeilo) is sung by The Central Washington University Chamber Choir (Gary Weidenaar, director), with an improvised piano accompaniment played by the composer. In May, 2013, composer Ola Gjeilo spent 3 days on the Central Washington University Campus to join the choir in recording 4 of his pieces. The other three were "Sanctus", "Luminous Night of the Soul", and "Vast Eternal Skies" This performance of Gjeilo's "Ubi Caritas II" is from that session, which included a rendition of the piece sung in in its published (unaccompanied) version as well. This was Mr. Gjeilo's second time on our campus, the first was in the spring of 2011, which resulted in 5 videos and a DVD (http://goo.gl/Xld0o) As of 2013, the CWU Chamber Choir also has recorded videos of the music of Byrd, Monteverdi, Muehleisen, Singh, Victoria, and Rautavaara on YouTube.
